One of my friends has a 97 BMW 745 white on white. He wanted to make the 4.4 engine sound throaty and loud and instead of putting flowmasters on it from the last car, he just cut the pipes and it came out sounding really close to flowmasters but louder and meaner. Buy whatever exhaust you like, but before you put it on, see how your car will sound with the straight pipes only, this way you can return the exausts if it sounds good. You might not be able to pass an emissions test but when the time comes you have the old mufflers to put on.

It is true, as long as you keep the cat converters on, straight pipes might not be too loud for some drivers
