help, convertible top wont move?
please help. i just bought a 84 eldo convertible.the top does not work.i checked the switch for power and it has it. i jumped the motor and the top worked. i saw 2 disconnected relays in the glove box loose,so im assuming maybe previous mecanic took them out? does anyone know where the power top relays would be located? and is there another common problem? thanks. bob

RE: help, convertible top wont move?
The relays you are referring to go in the trunk and they are supposed to put the back windows down automatically when the top goes down!!!I believe you can either replace the relays or I have seen them jumped out and you put the back windows down first before putting the top down , that is a nice car I had an 1985 convert also had a 1981 convert , I liked the 85 better!!

Check all the latches that hold the top open or closed. You'll feel sheepish but happy if this is the cause of the problem. If the hood won't close, make sure the lid for the boot (hood hideaway or cubby) is open. If it's not, open it. Check for a blown fuse.(see How to Fix a Faulty Car Fuse, Autopartswarehouse).

RE: help, convertible top wont move?
Alot of people think the 1984 and 1985 eldorado convertibles are factory , the fact is they all are conversions from a.s.c factory engineered and designed but none the less sent out . I had a 1981 convertible eldorado done by hess and eisenhart , I prefer the 84/85 asc's much better!!1976 eldorado convertible's are the LAST factory convertible'sof that era.

RE: help, convertible top wont move?
I have the same problem in my 1971 eldorado. I just got it last week, today i lowered the top with no problem, but now i can't bring it up. When pushing the convertible top switch to "down" it seems to react, but when pushing to "up" nothing happens.
How do i check the switch and the relay? where is the relay in this model?
Thanks, Dror.
