Power Steering Problem 2004 Deville
I bought a 2004 Cadillac Deville about 5 months ago that has about 85,000 miles on it. On two separate occasions when I was making a left turn, the power steering completely stopped working making it nearly impossible to steer. I stopped the car but left it idling (while still in Drive) and within a few seconds the power steering returned to normal function. There was about a month between the two incidents so it tends to happens sporadically. On both occasions the weather was dryand somewhat warm, but not to the extreme although I did have the A/C running. What the two incidents have in common is that I was going fairly slowly into the turn (fortunately) and each was a left turn. Also, sometimes I hear a groaning sound in the front end when making turns (both left and right). This is sporadic as well and doesn’t happen on a regular basis. I checked the power steering fluid and found it to be at the proper level.
Does anyone know if this is a known problem with this model year and what the cause might be? I searched online for recalls regarding this particular problem but couldn’t find anything. Needless to say I am very concerned since I drive the car daily. Thanks for any information you can provide.
