Have you figured it out yet?
In some of the newer cars, like 60's - 70's on the switch itself,
accessible from under the dash there is a 'push button' you depress.
This lets you pull the driver accessable **** out completely from the dash.
This will give you access the a nut like fitting you remove by turning counter clockwise,
then from under the dash you pull the switch down towards the floor of the car.
