2016 CT6 Transmission swap questions
Hi All!
Bought a 2016 CT6 Premium Lux . Had blown Transmission. ( would not even try to go in gear... nothing)
Found a NEW one on eBay ( I was shocked also ) for 1,800 bucks. Ebay and seller ( was a company ) said it would work, both were 8L45 ( but new one was build in 2018) Old one is 6NPL new is 8NPL. All these numbers are confusing.. I decoded the tags and they have different part numbers. OLD is : 24277260 ,... NEW one is : 24278709 .
Im out of the country right now, but dad and my nephew swapped trannies. they were exactly the same and transmission was actually new. ( or at least seemed like it)
Fast forward.. after swamp it went in gear and drove , but was horrible rough shifting. Dad called our local ( small town) GM garage, they said need to flash VIN to new transmission, and he trailered it to them and they flashed it and he drove it and it was rough at first then drove much better ( this was in town for just a few minutes . He took it home unloaded it and drove it again and it was horrible rough shifting again.
I googled , and asked him to check fluid level.. may be too much or not enough. he checked and said it was 1.5 qtr too much. he emptied 1.5 qtr, drove it about 15 minutes, and said it was smooth as silk .
Next morning, he drove it again and it was rough as a cob again ( his words ).
I asked him to pull codes and he got P0700 ( general TCM error and P2715 Solenoid D stuck open.
Facts:
-He did not change the fluid that was in new tranny ( 5 years old )
Questions:
- are the 2 transmission interchangeable .. we know it fits and drives but internally is the TCM or something different? The GM garage scanned the new transmission barcode and did raise an eyebrow
This is what im thinking .. please tell me what y'all think:
- bad, corrupt, clogged, fluid and or filter ( would explain clogged solenoid)( it does need changed to new type of fluid as per : 18-NA-355
- Loose, crimped , bad electrical connection.
