Friend of ours has a 2005 CTS-V - the left front strut (shock?) is leaking to the point of dripping. So, time for new ones, and I'm trying to get a ballpark price as well as determine how difficult it might be to replace them myself. I'm OK at swinging wrenches but certainly no expert.

I have an 05 CTS/CTS-V service manual. It describes "Shock Module Replacement" which appears to be the spring/shock/strut assembly. It does not describe seperate procedures for the CTS-V so I guess its the same as the CTS. I have no idea what it would cost but it does not sound like its too terribly difficult. Well, check that, looks like you will need a spring compressor, not to remove it from the car but to disassemble the spring off the shock/strut. You might want to ask over in the CTS-V part of the forum, somebody there may have experience with this.
