98 ETC Rear Suspension

98 ETC Rear Suspension
I recently purchased a 98 Eldorado Touring Coupe. When I got it's first oil change NTB told me I needed new rear suspension. My Service Ride Sys does show up in my information. I later had Farm and Fleet do an inspection and they say rear suspension is bad. It is causing uneven wear on my rear tires. These shocks are 560 dollars each. However, I have seen aftermarket conversion kits that replace the air suspension with passive shocks and a resistor to fool the computer. They are supposed to last the life of the car. Has anybody done this? How difficult was the conversion? Did ride quality suffer? Any information would be appreciated as I need to solve this problem relatively soon.
