i guess you mean the cost? you can thank you wonderful EPA govt for that.
chrome is chrome and nothing else is chrome.
but some are known to paint parts with chrome paint.
not the greatest, but better than pitted and rusty

white vinegar and aluminum foil paper .. fold the foil into a piece you can hold in your hand, dip it in the white vinegar and rub it on the chrome with medium pressure .. wipe off the residue that comes off regularly .. keep dipping the foil in the vinegar.
stubborn stains? crumple the foil
