I replaced head gaskets on my 97 SLS, made mistakes, and now its knocking. Long story short, I just want to get an opinion on purchasing a Northstar engine from junk yard with 30 day warranty.

Just make sure to look at the coolant passages where the hoses connect and look for any signs of rust or corrosion. When i bought my 98 sls the guy had put in a used engine that passed the compression check. Later the gaskets went out on me and i noticed that the water pump fins were totally rusted away and not sure as to how coolant even moved through the system. So just really look it over. Good luck.

 

I thank both of you for the replies. I had a Gold 96 DeVille that I bought for a grand with 101,000 miles. Had no issues with the 96' and sold it for double.
