I am not a fan of Michael Moore that is for sure but being Canadian I do have experience with "socialized health care". Here depending on your income you do pay a premium for this service and employers do pay a Health Tax. Anyway I have a family of 3 and my wife and we are well taken care of. I have no complaints at all. I have a brother -in -law who is chronically ill with kidney failure and he is well taken care of too. He pays nothing for dialysis 3 times a week plus all of the ancillary drugs and treatments and consults and he doesn't even have a job, can't work because of his illness so he is taken care of totally. He is on a list for a transplant too. If I want I can carry extra coverage and get treated by specialists. I can also carry insurance for a wide range of things not covered by the universal system, which I do, so my point is we have a pretty darn good system for everybody. Not perfect but at least we don't worry about a $50,000 heart attack.

On this serious note I just have to add that we have a pretty good system here and it's called Medicaire. Works fine but you do have to reach 65 to quailify. The complaint here is the cost, but instead of cutting benefits as all administrations are attempting todo,I believe the present system can be enlarged to a greater number of participants by finding more funding in the national budget. Maybe like not running off to war as a method of training our military.
Medicare is not charity and asthere is a monthly fee for all participants.

Yeah, what about the rest of the people here that are under 65? I don't have to worry right now because I started a group policy for my business years ago. Even at that, the rate goes up as your age does. I can afford it (hell, I even pay 1500 more per year for mdvip) but I often think about all of the uninsured citizens of this country (illegal immigrants don't count), because they just can't afford the premiums. I'm not saying that Canada has the fix all, but it appears to cover, without any aditional cost to the individual, catastrophic illness, heart attack, stroke, etc.

I guess the unisured in this country have to hope they don't get sick until they are 65. We need improvemnet in this area, so we need to elect some smart people. Are there any smart people running for office?

Oh Canada............................................ ......

You really didn't read my post thourghly. I suggested expanding the Medicare system to many more of the uninsured instead of establishing a completely new beuarcracy. From what I have read our Medicare is superior to the Canadian socialized system. Any Doctor, any time. Admission into one of the best hospitals in Boston on a weekend for bypass surgery on Monday morning which was performed by one of the best cardiologists in the city. His normal bill $16,000 but was adjusted and agreedon with Medicare for $9,000 and of that Medicare picks up 80%
The problem has developed because of the American desire for inexpensive products putting the major US companies out of bussiness along with their great employee medical and retirement benefit packages which were the "norm."
As a matter of fact when I hit 65 and had to go on Medicare I lost the far superior medical plan I had as a retirement benefit from the company I retired from.

I'm telling Don you picked on a moderator and it could be considered a personal attack.....LOL.

Maybe he will write another e-mail to Patrick (owner of this site) complaining about me and Zal, trying to raid the other site.
