My understanding is that you will need one of these converters In Feb, 2009 if you use a rooftop or "bunny ears" antenna to receive television reception. This might be usefull if you have a spare portable you keep for "power loss" reception of the major "non-cable" networks.

To me the loss of reception works out to be a good deal. "Sorry kids, no more TV !"
I'll just blame it on global warming

Just read an article that they are doing the same thing in England and Rufus Murdok has requested forty frequencies to establish a new "free" wireless network in England. So our PBS ect; networks will probably not dissappear. Don't throw those old sets or "bunny ears" away!
(I really wonder if our present networks will throw this all away)

I expect that the transmitting companies will give the adapters away as long as you watch their shows .. and commercials.
