Hey all,

Hey i got a 88 seville sts v8 that was given to me by my father whom was given to him by our neighbor. I love the car specially since i was driving a 98 hyundia accent hatchback haha. well we put a new tranny in her since the 3rd gear was pretty shot. now i have this check engine light that comes on and when i use an old obd reader that my dad has from the early 90's it reads as a vcc failure. anyone have any ideas?

92_Daddylac 03-20-2011 09:11 PM

the VCC failure im not familure with but the TCC failure is possible which means torque converter isnt locking up.

its weird because at times it will go bout 40 miles (without turning off the ing) and the light will stay off but then at times i wont even get 6 miles before the light clicks on. once the ing is turned off the light resets and sometimes i can go the entire dive with it off and sometimes not. also i forgot to mention there is a second code that says ecm mem reset. that one has showed up since day one of the tranny swap, but the vcc has only showed up for the last few days and it as well will have the same time frame for the light coming on. so its not a consistant time/millage frame.

vcc is the "VISCOUS CONVERTER CLUTCH"

Check around the tranny plug make sure wires r good
and plugged in also check the contacts make sure they r secure could have a problem with ground wire

which means that the transmission job was not done properly?

.

what about the ecm mem reset

gmtechs 03-20-2011 09:48 PM

whats the code
usually this code is set due to power lost
check your battery

88seville 03-20-2011 09:51 PM

the reader that i have says ecm mem reset code 52

dunkinman9999 03-27-2011 02:11 AM

have you lost power to battery and needed a jump recently

try resettting code could of happen if they disconnected the battery for tranny job and never reset code

ok so i finally found out that u can check the codes on the temp. control and this is what showed up.

ECM

E030
E039
E047
E052
E053

BCM

B120
B334
B335
B336
B446
B552

Any ideas what they mean?

92_Daddylac 03-28-2011 01:57 AM

ECM

(E030) ..... ISC RPM out of range
(E039) ..... Torque Coverter Clutch/Viscous Converter Clutch Engagement Problem
(E047) ..... IPC - PCM Data Problem
(E052) ..... PCM Memory Reset
(E053) ..... Distributor Signal Interrupt

BCM

B120 ....... Twilight Sentinel Delay Pot Circuit Problem
B334 ....... Loss of Electronic Control Module (ECM) Data
B335 ....... Loss of Climate Control Driver Information Center (CCDIC) Data
B336 ....... Loss of Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC)Data
B446 ....... Low A/C Refrigerant Condition Warning
B552 ....... BCM Memory Reset Indicator

this is what i came up with and the highlighted one is most obviously what is causing transaxle problems. If the Transaxle was rebuilt it should have warranty and be fixed at no charge i would also check to see if all of these codes came up as current or history codes. sounds like you got a quite a handfull of electrical bugs possiblly too.

88seville 03-28-2011 06:21 PM

ok so i reset the panel and all that came up after driving about 110 miles was the E039 Torque Coverter Clutch/Viscous Converter Clutch Engagement Problem. could this be just a sensor problem or is it most likely a internal problem. i bought the tranny from a dismantler and my father and i installed it.

On another note there is one wire with a 2 prong plug (green in color) that comes from the driver side within one of the looms that is about ~12" in length that we could not figure out where it went if it even went anywhere. I bought the chilton book with diagrams in it but it confuses the crap outta me was curious if anyone knew of that wire either.
