Oh no i cant help but laugh at this. ill explain what was wrong about this car. Being practicaly an insult to the name and owners of Cadillac. GM elected to rebadge its awful mass-market J-platform sedans (AKA Cavalier, Buick Skyhawk, Oldsmobile Firenza,sunbird), load them up with chintzy fabrics and accessories and call them "Cimarron, by Cadillac." This was what they used to give mercedes competition. This attemp at an eco version of Cadillac nearly killed Cadillac and remains its biggest shame. The car eventually became such a standard of the world for what not to do that, Cadillac Product Director John Howell had a picture of the Cimarron on a wall that said, "Lest we forget."

lets not forget history .. the most unwanted cars, the ugliest, the worst of the worst, after 30+ years, tend to end up being more valuable than other popular models as their numbers dwindle and spiral downwards by way of entry into the crushers ...

did anyone here ever price "The Thing", "Pinto", "Packard", etc ...

some take longer, much longer .. i'm still waiting for my fleet of Allantes to become gold .. but i'm not able to hold my breath for that long .. after celebrating their 20 year anniversaries, they are still near worthless .. at least when compared to Mustangs of the same vintage which when new, cost 1/3 of the Allante ...

Now stealth im a believer that the Allantes will be worth money as time passes. I See more potential than the Cimarron. The reason i say this is the car was just badged as a Cadillac and nothing on the car was remotely changed to make it different than than the Cavalier. They just gave it nicer seats, dressier door panels, and a shock absorber system to help keep the drivetrain from dancing around inside the engine bay. To enjoy Earth's yellow sun, an optional "Astroroof" was available only on Cimarrons.

just look at the Similarities or find something that is different.




Now if they would have had this as the Cimarron i would say it would be worth something or become valuable. This was an 85' Cimarron concept what happened?


The pinto and those other cars are unique in their own way and arent a copy of another car with different badges. Im positive you wonts see a Cimarron worth much in the future. But the Allante is a collectable to car ppl so im willing to bet the value will sky rocket soon. They were a unique car and nothing about them is like any other car.

that is one sharp looking concept car .. the bean counters got to it?

also, gotta give you that one; the pinto was unique .. i bought one brand new for $1600, 2,000cc with 4 speed stick, when i was in the military, put on almost 300,000 miles on it, then put it on jacks in a garage and forgot about it for 25 years .. two years ago, i sold off the jack-stands, not running for 25 years for about double what i paid for it new .. my '88 Allante, running ain't worth that much, dont make that bet, you will loose .. its value is not going anywhere in the next couple decades ...

btw, i sold the Pinto so i that could park the '92 Allante in its place which hasnt moved for two plus years along with the '86 GT Stang ragtop with a modified 5.0 / 6 speed stick which has also sat for those two years .. can you tell that i like ragtops? must be one crazy lifestyle, one cant hold the kids and then every girl that has crossed my path in the past 15 years cant handle sunshine - I wont even go into the motorcycle lifestyle ...

I tried to add the Cimarron to the poll but the system would not allow me .. sorry Cimarron buffs ...


Sticker prices --
The 1988 Allanté hardtop/convertible sticker was $56,533, today they bring maybe $2,500, about 4% of sticker;
the 1992 Allanté sticker was $58,470 for the convertible, and $64,090 for the hardtop/convertible including the gas guzzler tax of $1,300 - today they bring maybe $4,000, again, about 4% of sticker;
the '86 GT Stang convertible sticker was $14,945 - today they bring maybe $6,500, about 46% of sticker

do you know how much was the Cimarron ?

the Prices for the Cimarron:

The base MSRP in 1982-1984 was around $12,200-$12,700 they were only equiped with 4 cylinders.

For 1985 -1986 for the 4cyl. was $12,962 and $13,128.

V6 cimarrons from 1985-1988 was $13,522, $13,838, $15,032, $16,071.

From my understanding these prices were almost double what the Cavaliers/Sunbird cost.

We have a 92 El Dorado. It has been breaking down a lot lately. But it does what the comercial says, when we turn it on, it returns the favor.
