Default tires and NITROGEN

need to get a new set of tires for the 4x4.

i use BFG 31" 1050 A/T tires, and upon pricing them,
i found the installed and fully balanced set cheaper
at SAM's than COSTCO.

i gotta drive 12 miles to SAM's so i asked COSTCO down
the street what gives?

you ready for the answer ? ? ? ? i think they were serious.

"COSTCO uses NITROGEN instead of dirty air"

who cares !
it is a 22 yr old 4x4, mild but real off-road usage, mostly drives
under 45mpg in town, occassional 75mph highways, and
30 mph or slower off-road.

on a sad note, the cost of the tires will be about 50% of
what the whole vehicle is worth.

I still think with the price of gas now hovering between $2.50 and three dollars plus a gallon that the guy offering to put "helium" in your tires will be making a killing. You all be carefull and make sure you wash all that "air" well in Mexico before using it in your car!

$2.50 ? when is the last time you filled up?

i filled the Allante 5 days ago on Monday eve and the damage
was $58, REG grade at a 76. it took the rated capacity
minus 1/2 gallon, so she was running on vapors.
since Monday, the cost has climbed $0.07 / gallon

the ARCO is running about $0.08 more,
Shell and Mobil even more,

i will let you compute that in your calculator.

i never thought that 76 would be the cheapest gas
in town. to top it all, two more stations in town closed for
good. one used to be ARCO the other an independent.

the chain link fences are up and pumps were removed..

GET THOSE WIND TURBINES UP!

SHHHHHHHSH, it was still 2.49 when I filled up yesterday. It's the $2.45 for the heating oil thats killing me when I'm buying it in 250 gallon increments. Hopefully I've just had my last delivery of the season.

On the Nitrogen, I am retired SWBT and we used nitrogen to pressurize cable. It is what we call dry air, no moisture, and it is very stable when tempurature changes....I think it is a waste of time and money to put it in tires, but, what do I know.
