I have a 99 deville whichI bought a couple of months ago.It was working fine until I went out for lunch 3 days ago and came out of the restaurant and tried to start the car.The message on the dash said "starting disabled, remove key".Read the manual and it said the key might be damaged so I went to a local cadillac dealer and bought a new key. I went back to my car tried to start it again, nothing.Same message came out on the display.So my question is ,is there anything I can do to try to reset this problem or should i just let the cadillac dealer take care of it?Is this a common problem on cadillacs ?Any response would be appreciated.

 

I had that same message appear on my 91 seville with the chip in the key. my ignition was bad, it was designed with two wires coming out of it and one was broke, resulting in that message. I changed my ignition and the problem was solved. hope it helps
