shifter handle removal

Hi All:
First of all thanks for the leaky sunroof advice, the weed wacker line is a great idea!! Now for another tricky problem......anybody ever remove the shifter handle/grip from the post, the grip that has the trigger mechanism in it? I wanted to rework the black tape that is on the spring steel slide cover.
Thanks
Scott

RE: shifter handle removal

you should have a clip at the bottom of the shifter you will need some kind of a hook to pull out

Clip for gear knob shifter on 2015 XTS

Anyone have any idea where I might purchase the small clip that holds the gear shifter knob to the shaft for a 2015 XTS. I had to remove the console and as a result had to remove the knob from the automatic transmission shifter. The clip flew out and I can't find it. Talked to parts department at Cadillac and they tell me I have to purchase the whole knob assembly with leather boot - at least $125 for that. I need a 25 cent clip but have no idea what size etc. Thanks

I call it a "shifter staple thingy" or at least that's the technical name for it. That same part was used extensively by GM in almost all console shifter cars of a vintage close to your car.
