Default Having a problem starting the ol' boy up...

Hey guys, I'm having a problem with my 89 Cadillac Eldorado. I tried to start it up the other day and nothing happened engine wise. The key turned, but there was no resistance at the point where it would usually start the car. All of the lights and things that are supposed to come on did so, and I could hear the fuel pump going. I turned the key back and removed it and all the electronics and the pump remained on. I tried the key again back and forth to no avail. Everything remained on until I disconnected the battery. I'm thinking it's the ignition switch, but I'm not sure. Also, I'm worried that the ignition switch may be part of the key cylinder (I read they do that sometimes), which would be a pain in the tokus because of the passkey system. I'm not sure how that would work, getting a new key, cylinder and ignition that would respond to the passkey. Does anyone have any hints?

When everything stayed on: When you reconnected battery, was everything still on?

Yes, everything kicked back on the instant I reconnected the battery, fuel pump and all.

Cause is possibly in steering column, bent rack keeping stuff on, and not allowing car to start.
