Angry after market stereo install

I have a 1996 sedan deville base model. I took out the factory stereo and installed a Pioneer AVH-P3100DVD its a double din model. I bought a wire harness adapter from Best Buy everything is hooked up like the directions say but when my car is shut off for more than about 20 minutes I loose all of the memory in my radio. I check the hot wires and they stay hot when off. Is there something that shuts the whole car down after a certain amount of time or what. This is the second stereo I received I sent the first one back because of this problem. I also talk to the people at Pioneer they have nothing. HELP

im sure there is one wire in that harness that has to go directly to the battery. let me check with my installer........ ill get back to you real soon........ you are not replacing a bose system, are you? im thinking no
rickyd

he said you need data bust harness part # gmrc-03. or find the yellow memory wire that comes out of the system, fuse it and run it directly to the battery. that will work

Now by doing that will my stereo stay on all the time? I know I can manually shut it down but will it kill my battery life?

head..... i would first try fusing the yellow (memory) wire coming out of the pioneer unit, directly to the battery.... the draw would be very, very slight.....

you can purchase the harness at any stereo shop, however the installer suggests to run the memory wire. let the forum know how you make out, plz

No problem. I already harness one those aftermarket harnesses on it. The altenator will charge the battery while in use to right.

your draw that your memory line produces is so miniscule (sp) it will not matter... make sure you put an in line fuse in that line though. do you know what i mean?

you also have other things built into your ride that draw from your battery, while the car is shut down.... dont worry about draining your battery.

I will be working on it this evening. One more question when I manually turn the radio off wont my screen still be lit up. Its a 5.8 inch screen that could look quite attractive to someone looking inside.

yea attractive enough for someone to break in and grab it!!!.... i dont think it should, or will stay on for that reason.... plus the draw on battery to keep the screen on could be too much........ good luck and let us know
