'88 El Dorado Digital Odometer Displays "error"
I just picked up a 1988 El Dorado that was in a barn for the last 3 years. When it was put away it had roughly 51K miles according to the last state inspection sticker. The battery was removed from the car sometime while it was stored. I installed a new battery and it fired right up. The digital dash odometer displays error though. The gent I purchased it from is 90 years old and does not remember if the "error" was displayed before he parked it. The car is currently at my mechanic's doing all the normal stuff that would need done on a car that old that has not been driven for 3 years. Unbelievable as this may sound I actually owned this car 23 years ago and saw it for sale on craigslist a few weeks ago and had to buy it back. I have read online that this issue can be related to a number of possibilities. Before I send the instrument cluster out for repair I was hoping to get some advice on what to do. My mechanic says he does not think it is a BCM related issue, I am not sure how he determined that. The car is in excellent condition, it is yellow (cream beige) with yellow leather in almost perfect condition. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
