1964 Cadillac Coupe DeVille motor swap
I have a 1964 Cadillac Coupe DeVille with a 429, the motor has done nothing but given me problems, I'm about to pull it and go with a chevy 350 I purchased today. My questions are:
Will my existing tranny bolt up to the 350? Can I purchase pre fabed motor mounts for the 350? Has anyone ever done this swap? Thanks for the help guys |
You will need different trans or adapter. Chevy has it's own bell housing bolt pattern. Trans-Dapt probably made a kit years ago, they still make trans adapter. Frame and motor mounts for a 64 impala may work. Your car should have BOPK Turbo 400. I would try to find a chevy Turbo 400 trans that should minimize extra fab work. I would install transmission first if using thm 400, bolt engine to it , and then layout mounts and brackets for engine. If using different trans you will have some additional fab work to do. I have never done this application, but its a small engine in a big engine compartment. It should not be too bad. You might want a welder available to help with fab work. Good Luck
