Default PO 404 CODE

Twoweeks ago I got a PO 404 code on my 1999 Cadillac Seville. (148,000 mi.) Removed ERG valve, sprayed some WD40 into two openings on underside and cleared code.Last night code appeared again. Is there a correct way to clean these valves? If replacement required local stores are asking $150. That seems expensive these days.Seems like there should be a better way. Thanks for you help.

My understanding is you need to clean the tubes in the intake manifold under the throttle body, not the EGR valve. The tubes get plugged with carbon I'm told.

Anwith time the EGR valve just lives out it's life and must be replaced so bite the bullit and replace it if you want you hogto purr again. Check around different places and i'm sure you will find the EGR valve a lot cheaper than the stealer, oops I mean dealer.
