RE: GM Cadillac Aurora Northstar recalls question
VIN break means within the sequence number (last six digits) will fall between first and last numbers inclusive. Likely GM got a run of mismachined blocks. Engineers who inspected warranty cores, found after an unusal amount of warranty failures they all came from the same order. Then decided to recall cars built while that order was at the plant. Recall was done reduce the chance owners would suffer engine failure in or out of warranty due to machining. There may be cars out there that recall has not been done yet. As well a car that had blown head gasket that vin falls in the recall, if when block is checked the thread depth is correct, the recall would not replace engine nor re-imburse head gasket replacement.
