Emergency Brake??
I have a 2000 STS that failed inspection because the emergency brake would not work. I haven't been able to find any info about it. The manual refers only to a parking brake that you push the same time as the brake pedal and that is working fine, it releases properly when shifting to drive. When in gear the "emergency brake" pedal does nothing. Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated....thankyou
Parking brake should hold with foot holding park brake pedal down in gear at idle. With rear tires off the ground. Appy parking brake see if either wheel will hold. If neither one hold check brake cable adjustment and operation of actuators on rear calipers. If one holds and not the other it may be caliper. If cable will fully actuate lever on rear caliper and pads wont hold rotor, you will need to replace rear calipers. It is recommend to replace hydralic brake componets in pairs...right and left.
How do you change emergancy brake foot pedal assembly on 98 Cadillac STS? I have a new unit but need instructions (hopefully pictures) to remove and replace the unit under the dash.
i hope is not due to failure to release which can be caused by a failed solenoid activated via the shifter.
.
yes !
that is the "manual" release for when the automatic system fails
also, some cars also have a vacuum system.
I dont know which system you got.
