I have a 1994 sts with northstar engine, and recently when i was driving i felt the car just down shift to second gear, ever since then my engine light comes on if i go over 30mph. and it will not seem to shift any higher it seems like it stays in second gear. if i give it gas it will go higher than 30mph but then my rpms go around 5 or so. is this a trans problem ????

 

Sounds like a broken shift solenoid.
What code is stored when the check engine light comes on?

 

were will i see the code ... all i get is check engine light.

 

also i forgot to to say, is that i smell crayon burnig through vent. i say crayon because it smells like crayon.... can it be trans i smell???
