New Brakes?
I've got a 2004 SRX V6 and I'm thinking about buying a new set of drilled/slotted brake rotors with ceramic pads from eBay and have my local brake shop put them on for me. I can get these from eBay for about $300.00 and the labor will be about $250.00. Has anyone else done something like this before? I've researched eBay and all ads say their rotors/pads are OEM and will fit the existing calipers with no problem.
Thanks |

They dont do so well until they get hot. do check these out in our website The BEST car Cadillac ever made is the .. https://www.cadillacforum.com/m_9438/tm.htm MY Cadillac has more miles than yours thread .. https://www.cadillacforum.com/m_12353/tm.htm Average age of our Cadillac owners https://www.cadillacforum.com/m_931/tm.htm Why you should change to coolant the day you buy the Cadillac https://www.cadillacforum.com/m_7193/tm.htm https://www.cadillacforum.com/m_7388/tm.htm CODES .. RE: New Brakes?
Hey DJ,
I just bought new rotors/pads off of Ebay. There were 3-4 different sellers with a similar packages, and as Stomper suggested, I steered away from the ceramic pads. The drilled/slotted rotors aren't really necessary either, but they just look cool. I should receive them this week, and am planning on doing the install next. I can provide some details when I get them in, if you would like. I'm hoping the claims of OEM size and fitment are true. I'm having a friend help with the install, since I haven't done brakes before. He is a race driving instructor so he's used to do doing lots of brake replacement. |

Yes please keep me informed.

RE: New Brakes?
Will do. The OEM rotors are pretty ugly after they get all rusty. We have the 18" wheels, and the spokes are fairly slim, so these show really bad.
The new ones are supposed to be stainless and zinc coated, so helpfully they will stay pretty. I had a wheel off today changing a turn signal bulb(another thread) and decided to clean up the caliper. I was thinking about painting the calipers silver when I do the rotor change, but after some cleaning, it looks pretty good. I'm not going for the tuner look, but nice stainless rotors look great with a clean caliper. I used some degreaser and a steel wire brush, and now they look like new. |

Replace Rotors - 2005 SRX
Am looking for recent posts on replacing brake rotors. Is there a "set screw" or something similar, that must be removed to remove the existing rotors? I am unable to get them off. I've removed the caliper mounting bracket, etc. but the rotors will not budge.

Replacing brake pads in 2004 srx is about the easiest thing possible, anyone can do on your own and doesn't take but no more than 5 mins per tire/brake......I also then removed Calipers and painted and it made a huge difference, looked a million times better. Hardest and longest part was just cleaning 13 years of gunk from the caliper and the caliper bracket. took probably 6 hours or so per caliper....ended up using power drill with some serious wire bits and my dremel and that finally did the trick. Only real advice i could give would be to not paint until you do get them 100% clean because I was fed up of cleaning and just tried painting while stir dirty and just flat out didn't work. Also, make sure to get actual caliper paint from auto parts store or at the very min at least high heat paint. Lastly make sure to prime first, then paint, then clear coat. It makes a world of difference doing it right compared to just getting it done.

Drilled Disk, Ceramic Pads, Fake Brembo calaper covers, Vogue wheels --- THE BOMB! Ceramic pads were quiet and didn't chew up the rotors, however the rotors did show surface rust in a short while. I'd get as much paint on and inside the surfaces of the rotors as possible beforehand. (I did mine silver but black may look better) |
