I have always been told not to expect a tape deck on a vehicle this "Seasoned" to continue operating. The manual told me to clean out the deck with a cue tip and rubbing alcohol, yet that has solved nothing. Every time I attempt to insert a tape, the deck tries to read it for 2 or 3 seconds, and then spits it back out. If you push it in and keep it there, it reads the tape but it sounds sped up (sort of sounds like Alvin and the Chipmunks) so I quickly quit doing that, it did not sound too forgiving to the tape. By the way, I have an original Bose deck in there, any suggestions one how to fix this problem? Or should I search the internet for another "original" deck?

 

Problem is in radio - contact dealer and search net for Delco repair center to get estimate/ball park of what it will cost. Finding another 20 year old radio that is trouble free will likely be difficult.
