Default oil in cylinders

I took a look at my plugs today and they were pretty much shot as well as covered in oil. I know that oil in the cylinders means head gasket issues but the car still runs good so Im wondering how long i have or what should I do to prevent serious damage? Thanks

Perhaps Northstar engines are different, but oil-fouled spark plugs aren't typically indicative of bad head gaskets. Common causes are worn out or improper spark plugs, aged spark plug wires, worn piston rings or worn valve guides. Probably a good chance that both plugs and wires are original and well due for replacement.

Bad head gaskets (and I know this from experience with my 99 STS) will show as white smoke from the exhaust and unexplained coolant consumption (no leaks but coolant drops anyway).

If you do have head gasket problems, do not use any form of "stop leak" additives! From searching this and other forums, the result is no improvement and a plugged heater core that's expensive and difficult to replace. Nor do I believe should you use any form of oil additives or anything heavier than 10W-30.
