Default 2001 SLS windows roll up, but not down.

Hello,

I recently aquired a 2001 Seville SLS. From the driver side controls, I can roll any window in the vehicle up or down. Express mode works on all windows from the driver side control as well. The problem is, if you try any of the passenger controls, the windows will not roll down, only up. For what it was worth I tried to "normalize" the windows per the manual. Roll down (of course had to do this from the driver control) hold 2-3 secs, roll up, hold 2-3 secs. No go. The result is the same, regardless if the lock on the driver side is engaged or not. Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You!

sounds like the child safety is on ...

many vehicles feature a driver-controlled lockout switch, preventing rear-seat passengers (usually smaller children) from accidentally triggering the switches. This also prevents children from using them as toys and pets riding with their heads out windows from activating the power window switch.

Thanks for the reply Stealth. The lockout switch on the driver side master control indicates it is off. In fact when it engage it, the back windows will not roll up. So it seems the switch is working correctly. The condition that I described in my original post includes not only the back 2 windows, but the passenger side front as well, which the manual states is not affect by the lockout. I went as far as to pull the negative wire from the battery for while in hopes it would "reset" something, but no go. I am thinking it is the driver side (master control) itself, or perhaps a "relay or module"? This car is starting to remind me of my Allante when it comes to the windows

I'm having the same problem, but only the passenger-rear window switch though. At the passenger-rear switch, it goes up only, but at the driver panel switch it goes up and down.
Post if you find a solution, and I'll do the same. Thanks.

lp1974ny and Kevo, have either of you resolved the issues you are having?

do the same test and push up

The problem has not been resolved. However, I did purchase another master switch thinking this would be the solution. I disconnected the battery, pulled the old switch, replaced with the other switch, re-connected the battery and the same problem remains. I took the car over to the Cadillac dealership, they supposedly tested and said it was the master switch. At which point I told them I had replaced it already. The service advisor claimed that is what the tech suggested. Based on my Allante days, where I purchased a bunch of switches that Ebay sellers claimed worked perfect, only to get them and have something not work, I suppose it is possible.

The next logical thing to do is what 'gmtechs' suggested, when the weather gets warmer. The only thing that bugs me, is the fact that each window rolls up from its own switch, but not down. In my opinion it does suggest something with the master switch.

On another note, the car just popped codes P0741 & P1860, so I guess I have bigger things to worry about. Funny though, just before I got rid of the Allante, it popped those codes, and here I am right back with the same thing.

Maybe it is time to go back to Lincolns

Kevo, is it only one side of rear windows that will not roll down? If so, I would have to say it is that particular switch. They are quite cheap on Ebay. My problem is a bit different, in that all 3 of my passenger switches will not roll down, but work properly from the master.

Sorry for the double reply, I had a phone call well replying the first time. Damn work, they have no priorities lol, windows not rolling down or conference calls, hmmm.....

Thanks for the info. I'll try swapping the switch and let you'll know what happen.
