Default 1997 vs 2001

I see there isnt much action in this section but I will ask anyway. I have driven a 2001 SLS before that was not mine but looking to purchase my own. I'm torn between a 2001 STS and a 1997 STS/SLS. Is one year model more reliable over the other?

reliability will fall back on the previous owners. If they maintained the vehicle like they should it should be reliable. I have a 98 that was never properly maintained by the previous owners and got stuck with costly repairs i.e. headgaskets and transmission. With these cadillacs that have this powertrain its almost hit and miss when it comes to these cars. i have seen some with over 250k miles and run like a top. and some with 65k miles that blew head gaskets. So your best bet is to look the car over ask for service records if any and go from there.

i have a 97 with 163000 mi. no major issues with the engine itself, however i have replaced the trans last year. I deal with jasper alot , and from what I hear there were alot of issues with the northstar in general. one in particular is the head gaskets.
