Looking for a 92-96 Fleetwood with LT1 engine and factory tow package. If owner does not know, how do I find out if it has the factory tow pkg?

thanks,

The LT1 came in 94, 95, 96 cars only. In 93 the L05 5.7 V8 4 bolt main bearing caps truck engine was standard. In 92 the Fleetwood Brougham came with the L03 5.0 litre and very few with the L05 5.7 litre.

The 7,000 lb (3,200 kg) trailer towing package you want is RPO V4P, and you will see this on the parts decal on the underside of the trunk lid. This package was available on the 93-96 Fleetwoods and it's return to the Gen 5 Fleetwood in 1993 was something not seen in a production sedan since the 1971-1976 Gen 3 Fleetwood. The RPO V4P package included heavy duty cooling (RPO V08, which consisted of a 7 blade mechanical fan and an extra capacity radiator), RPO FE2 Suspension System Ride Handling, HD 4L60 transmission, RPO KC4 Cooling System Engine Oil, RPO KD1 Cooling System Transmission Oil, RPO KG9 140 amp alternator, and RPO GT4 3.73 gears with an 8.5" ring gear in 1993, then in 1994-1996, the V4P package was revised with RPO GU6 3.42 gears with and HD 4L60E transmission with unique ac***ulators to shift smoother with the shorter rear axle gearing.

The L05 is rated at 185 HP & 300 lb. ft torque.
The LT-1 is rated at 260 HP & 300 lb. ft. torque.

Since both engines offer the same torque but different axle ratios we know that the L05 has its torque lower in the RPM band than the LT1.

I also point out that the L05 is the traditional Chevrolet small block V8 first introduced in 1955 while the LT1 is not, it is a Corvette engine dating back to 1992 on the 1992 Chevrolet Corvette and ceased production in 1997. Few parts from the LT1 engine are interchangeable with the original small block engine. This may be a factor for future repairs and cost of parts.

Most people want the LT1 because of the horsepower differential but as I said torque is the same and in fact at much lower rpm with L05. Because of HP difference 93's go for a lot less money but torque is what moves a car and tows loads not HP. The L05 is the same engine as a GMC truck or Chevy Truck and they can pull up to 10,000 lbs when properly equipped. Just food for thought.
