The compressorhas the ground wire running to backof it. But the cluch will only engage if I ground it directly to the battery. DoI need a new compressor or canI ground it somewere else on the car?

 

Hey Ged: When you ground out the clutch to the battery that only tells you that the clutch is indeed working, that is the way you run a test. But there are othere factors in the clutch circuit. First if the coolant pressure is not up to specs then the clutch won,t spin. ( low pressure switch) Then the comp. cycling switch must be supplying power to the comp. drive because of a command from you at the climate control center. So just make sure that the groud wire is well attached and also that your engine ground is good. The electronics will take care of the rest. GL.

 

How do i check the engine ground

 

find the strap and wiggle it?

the only way i really know is to find the strap that grounds the engine to the frame,
pull out the bolt, wire brush the hole threads and bolt, put dielectric grease and reisntall.

same thing with the battery connections.

those two usually solve 90% of the electrical problems in any modern car
that hasnt had enough time to oxidize contacts in connectors..
