RE: Tried the Italian Tune up today...
the gent that wrote it is a GM POWERTRAIN Eng and often writes about the engines that are well in excess of 100k. i been doing the "blow out the carbon" for decades, on all different cars and all with well over that 100k mileage. no, i have never had a piston go through the hood or anything happen that damages the engine. the reason we call it the "Italian Tuneup" is cuz he wrote the article in regards with the '93 Allanté, a Cadillac designed and mfg'd in Italy and the recipient of the 1st production NorthStar . just keep in mind, he does not concone or recommend jack rabbit starts from 0 to 100, he talks about doing it from 55mph to 70mph to keep the combustion area clean and healthy ... https://www.cadillacforum.com/fb.asp?m=7154 ORIGINAL: strabo40 Should this be done with an engine that has 100K miles on it? The article was good and from what it says it sounds like it should be part of normal maintenance. |

Hi all.
Just wondering...I drive some open highway miles daily, reaching speeds 70-80mph. Would my car benefit from this? fyi. 2004 Deville. I'm averaging 22 mpg. -jasper |
