Most parts stores sell three levels of pads. Don't buy the least expensive go with mid range or highest range. I usually buy mid range rotors and top end pads. It's up to you and your budget.
CAUTION .. .. top end pads do NOT mean ceramic which should not be used on a street car ...

the note on changing coolant should apply to every aluminum engine in the market, not jsut the early ones.
when the car needs pads, flush the brake system at all 4 wheels.
add a bottle of Lucas to the transmission.
