Since you are new to this car here's my suggestions:

1. Compression test
2. pressure test cooling system
3. Change coolant now then every two years
4. Change oil
5. Check brakes
6. Check steering and tie rod ends
7. Check tires
8. Check steering lines and brake lines
9. Check exhaust system, catalytic converter, pipes mufflers
10. Check alignment
11. Check coil packs and plugs.
12. Check air and fuel filters
13. Check wiper blades and operation of washer
14. Check trans fluid and depending on condition consider change
15. Check codes for any history items.

oh ok thanks. what are the known problems with the 2000 deville(most common)

RE: maintanence

The number one concern in earlier engines is a neglected cooling system which can coorode head gaskets and cause failures. If this occurs and engine is allowed to repeatedly overheat serious damage can occur.Cadillac made some engine improvements for 2000 to address this problem. Oil useage is also common but no cause for alarm, just check at regular intervals and top up as needed between changes.

My personal experience with Cadillac is that it is a reliable and enjoyable automobile, I own two.

The thing to remember is to take care of any problem when it crops up. If you don't you are in for trouble. Cadillacs tend to have sophisticated sytems and leading technology even older models when compared to run of the mill Camrys and what not. Repairs can therefore be more costly. If the repairs are out of budget then another make of car should be considered.

what brake pads should i use on front pads

RE: maintanence

Most parts stores sell three levels of pads. Don't buy the least expensive go with mid range or highest range. I usually buy mid range rotors and top end pads. It's up to you and your budget.
