HT4100 motor

I started having a noise problem with my 85 Deville 4100 motor. I hear a grinding noise when starting the car and also when I accelerate and when turning the motor off again grinding with a bell sound. During the run time it runs smooth. I've taken off the serpentine belt and get the same sounds, so that tells me the problem is internal.

Hopefully some of the members here can tell me whats going on with my motor, is it time to replace this 88K motor?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Jim

RE: HT4100 motor

Take it into a GM repair shop for a FREE diagnostic estimate of repairs...that will get the noise problem diagnosed then either do the work yourself or if you know of someone.....

Hi Jims: Just to check something before you get into spending money, see if your starter is fully retracting on the bendix after a start. you should see the gears quite close together when doing an inspection if this is the problem. Good luck.

Hi brougham 1

Took your advice and replaced the starter but unfortunatly that didn't resolve the problem. The noise sounds like it comes from the front of the motor, timing chain, cam area ect. Do these motors have problems there?

Anyway I wish to thank you for your help.

Jim

PS In case I need a new motor can anyone suggest a good source.
