I just bought a 1992 Cadillac DeVille today and its already giving me crap.
1. The car sometimes refuses to shift from 2nd to third.
2. The display goes crazy sometimes. it jumps from 0 to 65 to 11 to 25 when im barely moving. It sometimes doesnt want to show anything.
3.It cranks slow. (Might be battery or Alt.)
4. When i turn it off, there is a growling noise and I think it is the susp. leveling system. But it foes on, then off, then on again.

I am sure you will get it running well, remember it is 15 years old.

1. Check your fluid level, check all fluids since you just got it.
2. Get a slavage display, that one is flaky.
3. I think Caddy's do crank slow, lots of toque in the starter, but could be battery or connections.
4. Probably compressor purging.

 

my 92 deville cranks somewhat slow but it used to crank really slow due to bad battery, also the "growling" noise is your suspension leveling mine does the same and also that was wearing down my bad battery causing my car to crank slow too. Not too sure about your display but if you have a "u-pull it " junk yard you can get a display pretty cheap, about $30-$40 if you get one from the dealer it may be like $200 or more. but i was always told that thedigital display inolder devilles such as ours are notorious for going out. mine hasnt but you never know.
