Default Cheap gas......

made my "service engine" light come on. Does anyone know how to clear this error. I have run all the cheap gas out, put in some octane boost and re-filled with 93 octane. Now my engine doesn't knock and ping every 2 feet but it still sputters sometimes when Im cruising.

It never sputtered before the cheap gas incident... should I go to the dealer?

Hi!! My husband did the same thing to our car when we first got it, and the light came on. The owner's manual says that it will take AT LEAST 1 full tank of premium gas to get the light to go off. Mine went off by itself after about 3 or four gallons on the tank of premium. Also wanted to let you know I got an OBDII reader for like 60 dollars at Wal-mart, came with book and cd to tell ya how to use it. It's a neat thing to have so you don't have to run to the shop every time for everything.

That improved it but it still sputters and jiggles a little bit while I'm lower in gas... I'm approaching 90k miles I'll just pay the dealer to get her revvin again.

Thanks!

one of the problems with cheap gas..if you get 'bad gas" from a station, in many cases it can cause damage to the fuel filter or fuel injectors...

Turns out the Northstar engines can run any gas. I was told they have a "cooling" feature in the engines that doesn't allow lower octane fuel to ignite as fast.
I actually needed a tune up because of misfiring. I just assumed it was gas related because the light came on immediately after I filled up with 87 octane.
