91 Cadillac Deville E&G designer series # 3108; won't start ...

hi to all I'm new here. I just got this car, 9 21 09 it ran bad but the motor was good with a 134000 on the clock, it is a two door, E&G designer series # 3108. any way I went to start it this morning to work on it, it ran for a moment and that was it, it will not start. at the fuel rail I have 38 psi, I have spark but it will not run. this is my first caddy in 30 years. I will say this, it will be a good car as it got me home, and not standing on the side of the road..
thank you for your help.

you need to pull the codes and post them.

if you dont know how, go to our FAQ and you'll find the pull codes instructions there.

And now it gets fun, no codes at all from the code reader map is working tps is working no rpm when cranking, test lights on fuel injection not lighting, 37 psi in fuel rail, now what.. I was thinking cam sensor, but when I call a parts store they don't know what I'm talking about

If the CAM SENSOR was inoperative, The CHECK ENGINE LIGHT on the dash would be illuminated.

35 psi for fuel sound low .. could be low fuel pressure and or fuel volume, vacuum leak in one of the engines vacuum lines, contaminated fuel.

Some GM engines utilize a CAM SENSOR and a CRANKSHAFT SENSOR and some utilize only the CRANK SENSOR.

If the CRANK SENSOR were faulty, In most cases the check engine light would illuminate and or the vehicle would not start.

Tune up is not a bad place to start. Replacing rear plugs ,#6 in particular, is a pain. It's unusual to blow injector fuse(s). Cam sensor/ Hall switch is in distributor which is used to set up fuel injection timing. Distributor orientation is important - if wrong will not set code, engine will run rough. I have heard ethanol in todays gas has cause some fuel system failures. You need a FSM if you don't have one, so you can use the on-board diagnostic functions to help diagnose concerns. Do Not Use Scanners to diagnose DFI Cadillacs(HT4100, 4.5l,& 4.9l) - It can get you off course in diagnosis - Cadillac diagnostic information is designed for on-board, not scanner, to diagnose.

I did a cap & rotor, plugs and air filter. can fuel injectors clog? if so can can I unclog them. As far the fuse go, I had a volvo do that to me, I hate volvo's. This caddy is nice I even have the window sticker from when it was new, $33,933. M.S.R.P it has the digital dash, but the A/C does not work, but one thing at a time.

of course. what was the fuel filter like when you changed it? you did change it, right?

also, ethanol will GEL as it ages. keeping ethanol fuel in the tank for longer than a month is turning out to be a bad idea.

The fuel filter is the only part I did not change, I found that when the motor is cold it runs good, but as soon as it warms up it starts to run ruff, I have spark at all 8 plugs and voltage at all 8 injectors, what I don't have is fuel in all 8 cylinders. my last caddy only had 3 carbs, and at this point I am in over my head, I do thank you for your help, if you looked at the picture of her you know why I am putting so much time into this. Is anyone here from Contra costa county or SF bay?

running ok when cold of course, its running on a rich mixture.

you got fuel pressure but NO fuel at every injector .. have you determined which injectors have no fuel? certainly change those. unless I'm lacking some info, I think your probably set after that.

i would change that fuel filter ...

E&G designer series are "custom", often cabriolet tops, simulated convertible tops, grills, continental kits, sidemounts, etc. .. what was customized on your car? I see only two partial pictures and that tells me very little.

At this point I believe you do need someone who knows late model FI to help you. You can always post their findings for advice. Injectors are feed by a common fuel rail. Injectors are power by 2 fuses; each applies 12v to 4 injectors. ECM grounds each injector to turn it on and off. It's is unusual to have driveabilty concerns with no codes. A FSM would be very helpful in understanding and diagnosing whats going on. Caddys with 3 2bbls...tell me more... for real.

In the mid late 1950's in to 60's you could hi pro caddy's, in 57 you could get 2 4's, mine was a 60 deville the speedo went to 130 and it had C/C and air bags for rear suspension. When I was 19 I worked a caddy dealer in Belingham Wa, the owner, a man named Dewey Griffin had many old cars, I got to drive a 1947 caddy convertibl, it was a 3 on the tree, and yes it had the stock flat head, I fell in lust with his 57 Eldo, a 4 door with a stainless steel roof, new it was $13,500. you could buy a house for that in 1957, anyway it also had 3 to carbs on it. I'm 52 and have been around cars all my life.
