8-track player
Hello fellow members, i won an auction on eBay for a Cadillac 8-track player where the ad said it came out of a '66 Eldorado. I had gotten it because i thought it could go into my '66 Coupe Deville but upon doing some research i haven't found any pics or info on '66s having these players in them. i did find a manual on eBay for the same player and it said it's for a '69+ Cadillac.
is this in fact for later year Cadillacs? any ideas on how and where i could mount this in my '66? would anyone want it? thanks for your time.

I believe that those units were meant to be mounted UNDERSDIE of the dash as compared to into the dash.

I see a lot of R&R 8 tracks of the era at thrift shops, might be worth keeping, not many cars came with tape units in the 60's. About the only thing that be cooler is an album record player.

i'd like to keep it. i received info that this unit is from at least a '70 Cadillac. the person i bought it from said he took it out of his '66 Eldo during the 1980s and doesn't remember how or where it was mounted. hopefully i can make it work without modifying my dash.

RE: 8-track player
This looks like a unit for 69-72ish Cadillac. I have a 69 SS427 Impala which has a unit basically identical to this, only difference being case design and Chevrolet logo on tape door. For Chevrolet at least, prior to 69, the tape units were part of a 4 **** setup (multiplex), which controlled the stereo for FM radio, and stereo when listening to a tape. In 69 Chevrolet switched over to something called a blue light radio. This AM/FM radio had the stereo mechanism built in, so any sound adjustment was done by little ***** behind the power and volume *****.
I don't know if Cadillac went the same way, but it seems possible to me since most other Gm divisions made the switch in 69.
