Default 2001 deville won't start, engine turns over

I too have this problem. When I turn the key and wait for the fuel pump, I can hear the pump start/stop and then turning the key results in a rapid turning over of the engine. Nothing else happens. I don't know if it is a fuel issue, or a spark issue, or even a security alarm issue. There was no lead up to the problem either. The car started every time and then nothing.

your problem sounds like a spark issue. take one of the spark plug wires off the spark plug and and lay it some where near the engine so you can see if it emmits a spark by having someone trying to start the car. if you are getting spark then its fuel related. the fuel pump may be weak or filter is dirty. you can test the fuel pressure in the line and see if its within specs.

There are no codes. I think I'll just shoot the animal and put me out of my misery.

that is exactly what has to be checked before we can help, the two basics ...
- fuel pressure
- spark

then report back.

I believe that a security alarm issue would give you a code.

well, that can be arranged and you would probably get a large turn out for the event, specially if all can take part on doing it ...

On a different note, 00 -mid 03 northstar crank sensors have a high failure rate and cause this type of condition. They will normally set a code(s) if they fail, but not always.
