Exclamation "Wiring is fun"; Said no man ever.

Hello,

I am having some issues with wiring in an aftermarket radio. I have searched everywhere, however I still have a few questions before I start. I am mechanically inclined and on a scale of 1-10 (10 being Nikola Tesla) I’d say my electronic knowledge is about a 7 or 8.

My Car:
2006 Cadillac CTS
2.8L V6
Base model with BOSE
OnStar enabled

• For the aftermarket dash I will be using these instructions: (http://www.cadillacfaq.com/faq/answe...dic/index.html) but I need to know what ‘size’ the new hole will be so I can buy the appropriate-sized deck.
• I also need to know if there will be any loss of function (Minus OnStar) that will happen. I would like the radio to perform as a stock radio would, keeping the wheel controls, chimes, delayed radio power off (when opening door) etc.
• I would need a wiring diagram if possible of how to wire in the ‘new’ radio after its modified as above (I do not mind using a wiring harness as long as it does not limit the functionality.)

If someone that’s done this swap could chime in I would be grateful, or at least point me in the right direction?

Any and all help is appreciated.

I'm new here but thought I'd chime in. Where have you looked for a deck? I ask because I replaced a stock Ford SYNC unit in my 2014 F250 this past winter.
I shopped at Crutchfield. Sure, I could have saved a few dollars elsewhere. But they had all of the harnesses that I needed to plug into the existing factory harnesses for the unit itself and the steering wheel controls. No cutting or splicing of the truck wiring. When I did run into a minor glitch with the microphone for hands free phone, their tech people were a phone call away and had an answer that fixed it.

I havent exactly looked for a deck yet. It doesnt really matter to me as long as i have bluetooth music streaming. I would love to just get a harness, modify the current radio and just plug everything in.
