Water in Trunk Lid
I opened my trunk lid the day after it rained and heard water slosh around. Has anyone else had this happen? What was thecause and what did you do to avoid it in the future?
If not, be listening for water when you open your trunk lid after a heavy rainso you may avoid your trunk lid from rusting through. I recently bought a 2005 CTS and like the car a lot. I am taking it into the dealership today to have them take a look at the lid.
Thanks for any feedback.

Is there a drain hole in the trunk / spare tire well? If it was my car, I be pulling the rubber plug on a permanent basis.
take a $1 bill, close the lid on it and see if you can move it .. if the weatherstrip does not pinch the $1 bill, you WILL get water in the trunk .. THAT applies to any car.
Also, you may have some drains clogged .. locate the drains around the back window or the trunk hinges and clear them. You can use either high pressure water (my choice) and if that doesnt work, try a BLUNT end heavy wire (bend the wire as a sharp end will scratch paint in the holes and create rust).

Thanks for the reply. The water is in the trunk lid (hence the post title), not the trunk itself. There are 2 drain holes in the lid, each of which has a rubber grommet and eachhas enoughclearance to let water drain (water drips are coming out of them). The problem is that there is water inside the trunk lid.
I am going to the dealership today to have themtake a look. My concern is rust through because I just bought the car and I don't knowhowmany times or how much time water has been inside thetrunk lid.
Regards,

You might remove the trunk liner and then remove the license plate assembly. After doing so, look at the seam under the license plate assembly. We had a big problem back then with the trunk inner panel and outer not getting a very good seam seal. Use a automotive grade water leak repair sealer, it will hold up better then silicone. Good Luck
It is at the dealership now. They have heard of the problem. My boss has a CTS and he has had the same problem. Sounds like a trend. The dealer said it may be coming in through the license plate, similar to what ctsv8 mentioned. Thanksctsv8.The dealership is working to seal it.
i have a 2005 cadillac cts and had the same problem with water in the trunk lid. i tried pulling out the rubber gromets and that didnt do anything. what i ended up having to do to get the water out was open the lid all of the way and drill two small holes in the bottom right and left corners of trunk lid for the water to drain out of. it works but does not keep the water from getting in. i called the cadillac dealer about how to keep it from getting in and the technician told me to re seal the screws that hold the rear license plate and brake light asembly on. i took it off re sealed those screws and the water is still getting in. i am going to take it back apart and see if i can see where else the water is coming in from. now i am chasing it all the way into the trunk where i can hear the water sloshing around.
