Default towing with the CTS

has anyone towed a trailer with their CTS? how much did the trailer weigh? any problems? I want to trailer my Harley. specs calls for a 1000 pound trailer weight limit - my trailer and bike will run around 1100 pounds. I wonder what sets the weight limit..... it's not the power, maybe the brakes? or the hitch mounting points?

thanks for any input.

harleydave, I just checked through your owners manual and found this: It should never weigh more than 450 kg (1, 000 lbs). But even that can be too heavy. I would suggest reading through your owners manual carefully and possibly speaking with your dealership to see what they may have to say. I hope this helps you.

thanks for the reply. yeah - I realize the manual (specs) says 1000 pounds, I wondered what the limiting factors were......

sounds like I made a mistake trading my old Ford truck away.........

I had hopes it would tow better than my old 03 Chevy Malibu with 3.1 V6.... the malibu would tow 2000 pounds - and slip right down the highway doing it.

the malibu was on a different platform...the sigma platform (CTS/STS) isnt designed to tow. even with my 6.0L V8 (not that i would ever tow something with my V) isnt rated to tow what the same engine in a truck will tow.

but i dont think 100 pounds will be a huge deal...

CTx-V,
thanks for the reponse.... I found a lightweight trailer and may order one. the total weight for trailer and bike would be around the 900 pound mark.

after looking at the hitches for the CTS, it's evident where the weakest link is... the hitch mounts through the trunk floor at the spare tire. I may have to do a little engineering to strengthen that area.
