Default Can't shift out of park! Help!

My traction control light came on and my 2003 CTS would not shift out of park. When pushing the button on the shifter I can hear a clicking noise coming from behind the steering wheel. I've pulled the codes from my car andthese are themore important looking codes:

c1287
c1295
u1300
u1301
b2356

Does anyone know what's going on? Thanks a bunch!

The TCM (transmission) module reads the IMS (internal mode switch), interprets the gear position, then transmits this data to the ECM, which in turn transmits the signal to the IPC, then signals the shift indicator.

Technically the problem could be anywhere along the path ...

If the TCM or ECM has a problem you won't be able to shift out of park. The body modules use the gear position signal broadcast by the ECM for the ignition lock and park lock systems.

Probably not a driveway fix ...
consider talking to a local automotive locksmith.

Stealth,
I dont know if I was supposed to clear the codes before I pulled them but I did get more than just the ones I posted. However I figured out how to put the car in drive but I know driving it would probably make the situation worse. If I put the key forward (position right before you start the car), hold down the brake as far as it allowswhile starting the car, the brake will go a little further in and the shifter will work. It's hard to explain. When the car starts it will go into all the gears however once I put it back into park it locks again. Ever heard of that?

it is important to know if the codes are CURRENT or HISTORY.

it is also important to clear the codes and see which ones return.

Have any liquids, ie... soda, coffee or tea with sugar been spilled on shifter. If so that could be the cause...a sticky mess preventing shifter from unlocking.

After reseting the codes C1295 is the only code that returned.

It relates to brake light switch. See if all your brake lights work. Shift interlock does use input from brake switch to release shifter. It could be a bad or misadjusted switch.

Katrinac, I have the exact same problem you described, also the brake lights are not working (any of them) so did you solve the problem? How?
