2008 Oil fILTER
Can any one please tell me if the 2008 CTS oil filter is in a canister on the left side of the engine please.
If this is true then is the filter a high pressure type filter, being the loaction of the filters height mounted to the engine?
Any replies on this will be very helpful.
Thanks

Yes the oil filter is in a canister on the drive side of the engine. Having just purchased a 2008 CTS myself, I would also like to know the proper procedure for changing the oil and filter on this car. The owners manual does not have any information on it. I'm assuming there is some sort of torque spec on the canister, and possibly some other procedure that is required to do it right. If someone has the 2008 service manual, posting the page on the oil and filter change would ne nice! Any help would be great, thanks in advance.
I sure hope this procedure is not as complicated as you guys are trying to make it sound. I unscrewed the top of the canister, (24mm socket)removed the old filter element, installed a new one and screwed the top back on. I've changed the oil in my car (05, 3.6) three times now with no catastrophic consequences. Mike.
you have to be careful when taking the oil filter canister top off. The nut may be hard to loosen and can break fairly easy. I witnessed it myself today. A real pain, and the sad part is that it wasn't tightened on very tight from the last change. It just seems to seize on there from the heat.
