Hey guys Ive never really had to change weatherstripping on any of my vehicles until now with my cts but i was wondering can i just use any universal weatherstripping or do i have to go with the standard OEM part for the car?

OEM will provide the best fit and seal.

Universal weatherstripping has limited use unless OEM or reproduction are not available. The trunk and in some cases the door opening strips where they mount on a pinch weld are a universal style and could be used. Weatherstrips that mount on doors with little "pegs" or in channels, I would a universal only if there was not OEM or reproduction available. With you car I would not expect to have to replace them anytime soon. Strips should be lubed with silicone paste periodically to prevent deterioration.

the car itself already has 100k miles and the weatherstrip on the body of the doors are already cracked/cut so i need to replace them. The sunroof as well as its letting a lot of water in and looks dry rotted. Thanks for the info.

Sunroof drains on '08& up CTS are notorious for becoming clogged. Check the drains before you condemn the weatherstripping.

no i know that ive cleared it up but you can tell the weatherstripping on the sunroof needs replacement as well as there are cracks on it. As well as its basically cut on the ones on the doors or where the door seals on the body. Just wanted to know if a generic product would fit considering the OEM part would cost me $140 each...

With the sunroof the weatherstrip is not designed to seal. It's water resistant not water proof, it depend on the drains to keep things dry.
