05 Cadillac CTS 3.6 engine

I was driving my car and my rpms started to jump a little. I took it to a shop and they ran codes and told me my mass air flow sensor needed changed did that and now nothing. I was driving pulled up to a stop sign went to hit the gas and my rpms went up and I had no acceleration. I finally got it to go again and then hit another stop sign and it happen again. I can shut my car off and then start it up and it will drive again. I had several people tell me that there isn't anything wrong with my transmission. So what is it? Can anyone help me out with this?
