Help: 2002 DTS Sporadic Overheating Problem
I have a 2002 DTS with 50,000 miles with a peculiar overheating problem.
If I drive for any length of time after a "cold" engine start my temperature gage sits at 12 o'clock high.
If I then park the car for 5 or 10 minuets and do a warm engine start, my temperature gage begins to climb until it hits 3 o'clock and I get a CID "Coolant temperature hot - Idle Engine".
I then idle the engine until the temperature gage drops down to 12 o'clock high where it stays for the rest of my trip.
Because of this eratic behavior I replaced the themostat thinking that was the problem. But it hasn't helped.
I do have a minor head gasket leak that I will be treating with thermagasket as soon as I get a few days of 40 degree weather.
Has anybody had this problem and more importantly a resolution.
