ok well i tested the throttle position sensor, and it seems to work as expected. However i did find and replace another dry-rotted vacuum hose. we shall see.

Well i have driven this thing all over creation. I don't want to jinx things, but i figure this problem has been resolved. my guess is it may have been in the broken vacuum hose to the EGR valve solenoid.
