American finally just said "screw You" to the FAA. When this complaint came up in "06" American examined their fleet and found no evidence of any "chaffing" in 25 yrs of operation. Along with 25 years of "rebuilding" each plane at it's Tulsa maintanence base.
The wires in question are in the aircraft wheel wells and are examined by both maintanence and a flight crew member prior to every flight on normal walkarounds.
Six weeks ago, when this complaint of the FAA came to light, the fleet was again examined and no problems found. This week the FAA came in with a tape measure and rejected every plastic tie more than 2 1/2 inches apart. Rather than experiance the "Mickey Mouse" fines that Southwest experianced American just grounded the fleet and are plastic tying all wire bundles at well less than 2 inches if you can imagine.
Safety and maintanence are the number one words in the airline industry and believe me, no major airline will ever gamble on maintanence for profits.
In this case, the FAA decided to go on a "witch hunt." Possibly a mention of a cut in budget funding their dept?

IMO, AA should have and still should post 10 ft signs with pictures and reports, as well as FAA names to inform every passenger of what is happening, what they did, and what the FAA did.
But, I'm not in charge.

You've just seen an example of it. The FAA designated American Air Line maintanence inspectors had done their job and released their inspected aircraft for service six weeks ago in airworthy condition, but this did not satisfy a few FAA inspectors and the whole airline industry in the U.S. is brought to it's knees. (Andboth Douglasand American Air Lines have to "take the hit" with no recourse!)
Make waves and it only gets worse! The system which has established the best and safest airline system in the world is gutted by zealous government employees!
